This site is a journal about our journey through creating a homestead and all its trials, tribulations and successes. We hope to educate, share ideas, open new possibilities for you as well as to entertain you.
We have relocated to Benson, Arizona, hence the new name Heritage Homestead. The property I am working on and will be sharing with you is not my own. I am sharing a home and property with a friend with similar interests and views on homesteading. I am still working towards getting my own piece of property to homestead for myself using the skills and knowledge I have gained spending summers on the family farm in Montana in my youth as well as what I have recently gained. My belief. is that one never stops learning throughout life. Once you believe you know it all, you have doomed yourself to never growing any further than where you are presently at.
Before jumping into the pages that follow, I want to share some things with all of you. I want you all to feel welcome here; I want it to feel like you are sitting on the porch of an old country store, sharing stories and knowledge with your neighbor. This is an education for all of us, myself included. I have asked some of my friends who are bloggers to share some of their stories with us as well. Unfortunately, in my youth, I found it much more exciting to be out in the fields with my cousins and Uncles or riding horses rather than learning certain homesteading arts and activities. That is why I have asked these friends for permission to repost them here. They will be giving advice on canning, food storage, folk crafts and a variety of subjects that I have limited knowledge of.
Besides, just the regular homesteading skills that you might expect, I am also going to be sharing information on "prepping", my personal feelings on Big Ag Companies, growing healthy foods, herb uses, politics when it interferes with our abilities to provide for our ourselves and our families as well when it infringes on our personal freedom, humanely raising animals, how we can impact others and our communities and environment. Because of being in the desert and in an area that has been struck by drought for 14 years now, I am also going to delve into topics ranging from aquaponics to permaculture and gray/rain water harvesting and some resources we found useful. We also have some of our own products available here.
You can also follow our adventures on Face Book, Twitter and Pinterest by clicking on the links next to our name above.
I welcome you and hope that you visit often and share some of your own experiences and knowledge!!
We hope to see you again! Check back later for new updates to our website. There's much more to come!
